The West Holmes High School wrestling team delivered a historic performance on Saturday, February 14, earning a third-place finish at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association DII State Team Duals Championship Tournament held at Bishop Watterson High School.
The third-place trophy marks the highest finish in program history for the Knights at the state team duals event.
Seeded fifth entering the tournament, West Holmes proved it belonged among the state’s elite from the opening whistle. In the championship quarterfinals, the Knights jumped out to a commanding 31-0 lead over fourth-seeded Perkins, setting the tone for an impressive day of competition.
The Knights’ only loss came in the championship semifinals against the tournament’s top seed, Bishop Watterson. Despite the setback, West Holmes regrouped with determination for the consolation final.
In a thrilling third-place dual, the Knights edged New Lexington 34-33 in a match that came down to the final bouts. West Holmes held strong under pressure to secure the one-point victory and cap off a memorable day.
