The West Holmes Track & Field teams traveled to St. Clairsville to compete in their respective 2026 OHSAA Division 3 Eastern District Meets and after Day One of competition had two relay teams and four individuals qualify to the OHSAA D3 Muskingum University Regional next week. Several more individuals and relay squads qualified for Day 2 of the Eastern District Championships on Saturday May 23 by advancing out of the prelims. Qualifying for Regionals were the Girls and Boys 4×800 teams. The Girls squad consisted of Katherine Kaster, Breslyn Brown, Sophie Arnold and Iriel Mena who finished 2nd in a season best 9:56.70 while the Boys team of Parker Garver, Cole Troyer, Jimmy Wengerd and Owen Mallasch qualified to Regionals placing 4th in 8:48.51. This is the first time since 2013 that a Boys 3200 relay has qualified to Regionals. Individuals qualifying for the Regional next week are Mallory Marmet in the Shot Put, 3rd in a personal best of 35-11.50, Maddax Graham, winning the Discus in 159-2, Katherine Kaster, 3rd in the 3200 m run in a personal best of 11:40.08 and Rhett Chaney, 2nd in the long jump in 20-11.75. Also scoring in the finals was Iriel Mena 5th in the 3200 run in 11:59.24 and Owen Mallasch 7th in 11:18.15. Advancing to Day 2 at St. Clairsville on Saturday was Cole Troyer in the 400 dash, Mac Craft in the 200 dash, Iriel and Breslyn in the 800 m run, Jimmy and Parker in the 800, the Boys 4×100 of Rhett, Garrett Obrst, Cody Gallion and Mac, 4×200 of Rhett, Garrett, Marshall Yoder and Mac, Marshall in the 300 hurdles and the girls 4×400 of Breslyn, Chelsie Cooper, Alizah Sigler and Katherine. Also competing on Saturday in the 1600 m run will be Katherine and Sophie for the Knight girls and Owen Mallasch for the WH boys. Several individuals and relays teams also had season bests at St. Clairsville but did not advance to the District Finals or Regionals!
