The West Holmes Girls and Boys traveled to Ashland University for the 2026 Ohio Cardinal Conference Championships and both teams continued to improve in both individual events and relays as they move closer to their OHSAA Division 3 District Meets to be held at St. Clairsville HS on Wednesday May 20 and Saturday May 23. A highlight of the evening was another outstanding throws double for WH junior Mallory Marmet who won the Discus with a new Personal Best of 125’ 9” and finished runner-up in the Shot Put at 34’2.25”. This helped her earn OCC Field Event Athlete of the Meet honors tying Maddie Minnis of Dover with 18 points to share the award. Maddax Graham won his specialty again winning the OCC Discus title with a toss of the platter of 159’10”. He also placed 5th in the Shot Put in a loaded field with a throw of 50’2”. He scored 14 points to finish second in the OCC top Field Events scorer category. Mac Craft had two Personal Bests in the Sprints finishing 4th in the 200 at 23.00 and 5th in the 100 in 11.29. He also anchored the 4×100 relay of Rhett Chaney, Garrett Obrst, Cody Gallion and Mac to a season best in 44.68 to finish 5th. He anchored the 4×200 relay of Rhett, Garrett, Marshall Yoder to a 1:32.84, tying their season best. For the Girls Katherine Kaster set a Personal Best of 5:12.22 to finish 3rd and she anchored the 4×800 of Iriel Mena, Breslyn Brown and Sophie Arnold to an First Team All-OCC Runner-Up finish. Sophomore Rhett Chaney finally cracked the 21 foot barrier with a personal best of 21’2” to finish 5th. Iriel finished 3rd in the 3200 in an outdoor season best. Mckaylin Getchey placed 7th in the Hugh Jump while Jimmy Wengerd was 8th in the 800 meter run. The girls 4X400 relay of Breslyn, Alizah Sigler, Chelsie Cooper and Katherine finished 4th while Breslyn ended up 6th in the 400 meters and Sophie 5th in the 3200 m run.
