The wrestling team competed in the OHSWCA State Duals Saturday. They competed against the top 8 teams in division 2. In the first round the #5 seed Knights got out to a 31-0 lead on the #4 Perkins Pirates. The matches went back and forth through the middleweights. After a huge throw by Cam McCluggage, at 175 lbs, the Knights sealed the victory as they moved on to the Championship Semifinals. West Holmes won the dual 39-34. Individuals wins for the Knights: Wyatt Crabb, Colton Garver, Liam Angle, Peyton Martin, Gabe Umstead, Ian Daugherty, Louden Dixon and Camden McCluggage. In the Championship Semifinals, #5 West Holmes faced off against #1 Bishop Watterson. The Knights won 3 of the first 5 matches, but fell behind and weren’t able to get back into the dual. Bishop Watterson topped the Knights 46-24. Winning individual matches: Wyatt Crabb, Liam Angle, Gabe Umstead and Noah Grassbaugh. The Knights then faced off with #3 New Lexington for 3rd place. In wins and losses, the wrestlers put together potentially their best performance of the season. They got up big with wins from Liam Angle, Peyton Martin and Gabe Umstead. From there, New Lex went on a run of 3 straight wins of their own. Louden Dixon stopped their run with a tech fall at 157 lbs. Lincoln Goans, Camden McCluggage and Dylan Sours all earned bonus point victories that gave the Knights enough of a lead that they came away with 3rd place. West Holmes defeated New Lexington, 34-33. The 3rd place finish in the State Duals is the best finish for the Knights Wrestlers in school history! Next up for the wrestlers is the OCC Tournament at Ashland on Saturday, February 21st.
